PSATs

Who else took it? Comments please.

I took it on Saturday.  I’ve been a good test taker, but even though it was just practice for us sophomores, I  felt an unusual amount of pressure.

Pressure, especially from anything involving public performing, has always been my weakness.  Don’t know why.  Especially hurts my trombone playing, my mouth gets dry and I can hardly get a note out. I’m not even nervous, though. Anyway, I’ve gotten off topic.

The reading and first math section went ok, but I guess I was just tired by the time I got to the second math section, with some non-multiple choice questions.  I had to skip maybe 3 or 4 in that one, that’s going to hurt.

Speaking of trombone playing, all-state auditions are this Saturday. I consider myself above average, but definintly not all-state material, at least not yet.

Back in 6th and 7th grade, I was good for my age, and my trombone teacher, (also a director at the high school), took every avilable oppurtunity to tell me that.  I think that’s why I didn’t practice close to what I should have to get better at a reasonable rate, especially over the summer.  I basically justified it by telling myself that I didn’t need the practice, and I had enough natural talent to get by.

I now realize that not practicing much was the worst decision I have ever made.  I didn’t realize how important and a big part of my life that band would be in High School, and I’ve paid for it.  I hate myself when I think about where I would be right now if only I had practiced a little more in Middle School, but all I can do now is do the best I can…and practice.

But, for one reason or another, I still don’t, at least not as much as I probably should.  Too much homework, too little time, I find a reason to justify it somehow.  But I still think that one of the biggest factors that affected my development as a trombone player was probably my trombone teacher, and now director, telling me how unbelievably good I was.

Also, btw, my blog doesn’t seem to be showing up on the ‘recently updated blogs’ sidebar at blog.com…whats up with that?
